Transit Hunt for Young and Maturing Exoplanets (THYME). VIII. A Pleiades-age Association Harboring Two Transiting Planetary Systems from Kepler

چکیده

Abstract Young planets provide a window into the early stages and evolution of planetary systems. Ideal for such research are in coeval associations, where parent population can precisely determine their ages. We describe young association (MELANGE-3) Kepler field, which harbors two transiting systems (KOI-3876 Kepler-970). identify MELANGE-3 by searching kinematic spatial overdensities around planet hosts with high levels lithium. To age membership MELANGE-3, we combine new high-resolution spectra archival light curves, velocities, astrometry stars near KOI-3876 spatially kinematically. use resulting rotation sequence, lithium levels, color–magnitude diagram candidate members to confirm presence 105 ± 10 Myr population. may be part recently identified Theia 316 stream. For exoplanet systems, revise stellar parameters, taking account newly determined age. Fitting 4.5 yr find that KOI-3876b is 2.0 0.1 R ⊕ on 19.58 day orbit, while Kepler-970 b 2.8 0.2 16.73 orbit. was previously flagged as an eclipsing binary, rule out using radial velocities from APOGEE statistically validate signal origin. Given its overlap valuable studies spot year timescales, both contribute growing work associations.

Variability of Kepler Solar-like Stars Harboring Small Exoplanets

We examine Kepler light-curve variability on habitable zone transit timescales for a large uniform sample of spectroscopically studied Kepler exoplanet host stars. The stars, taken from Everett et al., are solar-like in their properties and each harbors at least one exoplanet (or candidate) of radius „2.5 Re. The variability timescale examined is typical for habitable zone planets orbiting sola...

Comparative Habitability of Transiting Exoplanets

Exoplanet habitability is traditionally assessed by comparing a planet’s semi-major axis to the location of its host star’s “habitable zone,” the shell around a star for which Earth-like planets can possess liquid surface water. The Kepler space telescope has discovered numerous planet candidates near the habitable zone, and many more are expected from missions such as K2, TESS and PLATO. These...

On the Age of Stars Harboring Transiting Planets⋆

Results of photometric surveys have brought to light the existence of a population of giant planets orbiting their host stars even closer than the hot Jupiters (HJ), with orbital periods below 3 days. The reason why radial velocity surveys were not able to detect these very-hot Jupiters (VHJ) is under discussion. A possible explanation is that these close-in planets are short-lived, being evapo...

Spectroscopic Studies of Transiting Planetary Systems

As of December 2007, radial velocity measurements and planetary transit surveys for nearby stars have already identified more than 250 planets around other stars. These “extrasolar planets” opened a new field of astronomy in the past decade. The discovery of many extrasolar planets have revealed the existence of exotic planets such as “hot Jupiters” and “eccentric planets,” showing the diversit...

Kepler-47: a transiting circumbinary multiplanet system.

We report the detection of Kepler-47, a system consisting of two planets orbiting around an eclipsing pair of stars. The inner and outer planets have radii 3.0 and 4.6 times that of Earth, respectively. The binary star consists of a Sun-like star and a companion roughly one-third its size, orbiting each other every 7.45 days. With an orbital period of 49.5 days, 18 transits of the inner planet ...
